Guide
Indoor cycling in your browser
You don't need to install an app to ride your smart trainer. Chrome and Edge can talk to Bluetooth devices themselves, including your trainer. Handy on a Chromebook, on a work laptop where you can't install anything, or if you just don't want another app.
What you need
- A Bluetooth smart trainer that speaks FTMS. That's the standard for trainers; most trainers from Wahoo, Tacx and Elite and the Zwift Hub do.
- Chrome or Edge on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS or Android.
- Bluetooth on your computer. Most laptops have it built in.
What doesn't work
iPhone and iPad. Apple doesn't allow Bluetooth in the browser, not even in Chrome: on an iPhone every browser is Safari under the hood.
Safari and Firefox. They don't support Bluetooth in the browser on a computer either. Use Chrome or Edge.
ANT+. Cadence Rides only connects over Bluetooth.
Can't find your trainer?
- A trainer only talks to one app at a time over Bluetooth. Close Zwift, your trainer's own app or the one on your phone.
- Pedal for a moment: many trainers only show up once the wheel turns.
- On a Mac: allow Chrome to use Bluetooth when your Mac asks, under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Bluetooth.
Which apps run in the browser
Cadence Rides (real courses with their elevation profile), Cycloscape (any GPX as a 3D world) and Biketerra (real routes) run in the browser. Zwift, MyWhoosh and ROUVY are apps you install. What they cost is in cheap Zwift alternative.
Free during the beta, until 31 December. Then €3 a month.
